ENVIRONMENTDue to the increased production of milk in cows, fewer cows are being used by the farmers, therefore reducing greenhouse gases production. The decrease of nitrogen and phosphorus reduced by 9.1% and 11.8% respectively, and therefore the decrease in the cattle population decreases the greenhouse gas production factor, which in turns helps us keep the ozone layer under control.

ECONOMYThe US Department of Agriculture estimates that implementing bST could lead up to a 5% increase in milk production, which could decrease the price of dairy products.
It is assumed that with the usage of bST, the milk consumption will be decrease due to the fear of the effects of the hormone on the milk and will have a negative impact on the economy of the dairy industry, considering all the fear that is surrounding the GMOs. |
SOCIETYHowever, while the hormone itself did not pose risk to humans, as only a small amount of the hormone remains in the milk and not nearly enough to damage our own health, animals have health concerns and therefore must be treated with antibiotics, which in turn find their way into our body, which can build up immunity and can cause issues in our bodies when attempting to use similar composition of anti-biotics and our bodies have already been exposed to them. Only 4 out of 82 commercially used anti biotics are tested for and in Wall Street Journal 's(1989) study, 20% of the milk had illegal anti-biotics present.
